6" - 9" Fat Heads

I use Chocklett's Body Tubing everywhere in these patterns, holding things together, keeping the fly profile bigger, and sometimes making for a nice small head. That's all the 1/4" tubing, and it is critical to modern big fly design.
The 1/2" tubing used here in the Fat Heads gets less love, probably because it's harder to work with, even with Gel Spun Polymer thread and good glues. I've found you can fit it on the front of a long/shank hook to make a good 6-7" single, but the best results come from putting the Fat Head on a 28mm shank out in front of the hook, T-bone style, for an 8-9" fly. These run 7-8 grams.
The 1/2" tubing wants to float, and it pushes a huge amount of water around. You can drag it around topwater like a slider if that's your thing, but it really comes alive behind a sinking tip or full sinking line.
I tie these on wide gap 6/0 Kona BGC or Partridge Predator hooks.
